We are so excited to host Cameron DeWhitt & Morgan Harris for a concert on May 21. Did you know that Cameron is host of a great podcast called Get Up in the Cool? Cameron is basically the Terri Gross of old time music interviews, but with music jams in between the talking to boot!
I found Get Up in the Cool years ago (when I lived in Asheville) and was looking for something to listen to. When I found the podcast, I was excited because many of the (now over 800!) guests were my pals, teachers, heroes from my square dance and old time communities. If you are not an old time music nerd, you may not recognize many names, but, you are in luck, because Cameron has interviewed two names you will know: Lindsay McCaw and Aaron Jonah Lewis (both part of the Detroit Folk School team)!
Cameron also interviewed Morgan Harris who is also on the bill of our upcoming concert on May 21 at St. Peter’s in Corktown. This is a great way to get a teaser of the magical music that will fill the air during the show and to also get to know a bit more about both musicians.

About Cameron DeWhitt
Cameron DeWhitt is a clawhammer banjoist and Old Time musician living in Portland, Oregon. They play banjo and sing with Morgan Harris and George Jackson as Tall Poppy String Band, whom Country Queer dubbed “an old-timey, queer supergroup.” Cameron is the innovator behind pitchfork banjo, a three-finger clawhammer technique that allows them a unique, improvisatory approach to old time banjo music. They are also the host of Get Up in the Cool, a weekly old time music and interview podcast, featuring conversations and musical collaborations with today’s most influential traditional musicians, such as Jake Blount, Laurel Premo, Tatiana Hargreaves, Bruce Molsky, Adam Hurt, and Dirk Powell. As an interviewer, Cameron acts as audience surrogate, asking illuminating questions to Old Time’s best and brightest while telling the larger story of the tradition’s modern era. Morgan Harris (she/they) is a Colorado-based guitarist specializing in traditional North American stringband (or ‘old time’) music. In contrast to the purely accompanying role the guitar often occupies in this space, Morgan’s distinctive playing technique allows the guitar to shine as an old time melody instrument, creating a rhythmic drive and a multi-layered resonance that is unique in the world of flatpicked guitar.
